In 1981 Baron Emanuele Scammacca Murgo decided to turn the old estates of the family in modern farms. In subsequent years they join him sons Michael, Peter, Matthew, supported by brothers Philip, Alexander, Bernardo, Manfredi and Constantine. Currently the vineyards are located at the three estates: San Michele (Santa Venerina), Gelso Bianco (Catania) and the Franciscan (Aprilia)
In 1982 is bottled the first Etna Rosso and later, in 1990, the first sparkling Brut Murgo.
The vineyards now have a territory of 30 hectares and is mostly dedicated to the production of Etna DOC wines.
For some varieties of French origin, we also get interesting creative wines. The vineyard management is based on the use of priority eco-natural techniques.
Get wines linked to the terroir, creative and pleasant, it has always been the main focus of our strategy. The wine range is divided into four different categories: "Murgo" brings together traditional wines Etna Doc; the Lapilli and Arbiato lines point to a modern and young. Wines from the "Tenuta San Michele" range are produced in particular plots of the vineyard and only considered in exceptional vintages. Murgo sparkling wines are produced from grapes of Nerello Mascalese, harvested before full maturity, elaborated with the classic method and aged for many years on the lees.

Stemming and crushing the grapes. Maceration at a controlled temperature (28-29 ° C) with selected yeasts in stainless steel vats for 7-8 days. After racking the wine it is aged for 6-8 months in the typical chestnut-wood barrels Etna (capacity 30-130 hl) and then assembled and transferred in the underground cellar where it rests in stainless steel tanks until bottling it it is carried out several times, after at least one year after vintage. After bottling, the bottles are aged for at least three months.
